How to Reach the Summit
There are three classic ways to get to the top of Pikes Peak. Whether you prefer to drive, ride, or hike, there's an adventure waiting for you. Choose the journey that best fits your style.
The most popular option. The 19-mile paved road is a journey of its own, with breathtaking views and switchbacks leading you to the summit. It's a must-do scenic drive, but be prepared for changing weather conditions. Allow at least 2-3 hours for the round trip.
Sit back and enjoy the world's highest and longest cog railway. This historic 9-mile journey takes you through beautiful forests and past waterfalls before reaching the summit. It's a comfortable and scenic way to experience the mountain without the stress of driving.
For the ultimate challenge, take on the legendary Barr Trail. This strenuous 13-mile (one-way) trail gains over 7,500 feet in elevation. It's a serious undertaking for experienced hikers, requiring a full day and proper acclimatization. Reaching the summit on foot is a true badge of honor.
At the Summit
