For serious hikers, the Barr Trail is a bucket-list achievement. This strenuous trail gains over 7,500 feet in elevation on its 13-mile journey to the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak. It's a true test of endurance and acclimatization.

The trail begins in Manitou Springs and switchbacks relentlessly up the side of the mountain. Most hikers take 6-10 hours to reach the summit. Be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions and start early!
Warning: High Altitude
This is a very difficult, high-altitude hike. Proper gear, plenty of water, and acclimatization are essential for a safe ascent.
Local's Tip
Consider hiking to Barr Camp (6.5 miles in) for an overnight stay to break up the trip, or arrange for a ride down from the summit via the Cog Railway or a friend.
